With participants from a total of 7 nations from four different continents, the Obersee Masters once again attracted a large number of international guests. Besides the established European fistball nations, numerous teams from overseas also found their way to Obersee to participate in the tournament this year. For example, the spectators could enjoy the South American playing culture of the Brazilians and Argentinians.
In the final between the top team of Duque de Caxias (BRA) and the 2nd team of the German national team, Duque finally deserved to win the tournament 2:0. In front of an attractive audience, the players of both teams showed some sensational defensive actions and thus offered the expert audience a suitable conclusion of the elite tournament. Third place went to Team Deutschland 1, who rebounded the best Swiss representative in the match for bronze with STV Wigoltingen. In the extremely strong field of 24 teams the Joner men missed the entry into the final round, because after a longer training break as well as some personnel absences it was not possible to call up his optimum performance. In a balanced group with Vöcklabruck, Bozen and Hagen, however, they achieved three successes and finished in 17th place.
In the women’s category, the northern German top team of Ahlhorner SV prevailed in an attractive and competitive final game with 2:0 sets against their southern German competitor TSV Calw and thus won the Obersee Masters for the second time in tournament history after 2012. The home team from Jona knew how to convince at their own tournament and had to admit defeat by one point in the semi-final against Calw only in extra time and thus only narrowly missed out on a place in the final. In the fight for the third place against the currently best European women’s team, TSV Dennach, Jona unfortunately could not succeed any more and thus ranks 4th in the large field of 24 international top teams.
